Aug 17, Jennifer Holland rated it really liked it. It is the result of an awareness of–and commitment to–herself. I really liked some of this book and really hated other parts. She currently divides her time between Paris and Los Angeles, where she lives with her family, and is at work on a historical novel.
Late Summer in the Vineyard. I think I found it particularly interesting because I read it on a break from Judith Warner’s Perfect Madnesshous is so far a pretty bleak read. I found it ridiculous that the book goes on and on and on about the elegant sophisticated classiness of French women but consistently refers to them as girls.

How do they decide when they’re ready to let someone become a part of their very private lives? But in reality, the French girl comes in a multitude of styles and body shapes, and whatever her figure, she looks remarkable and just plain sexy.
They come from generations of women raised to cultivate an extraordinary sense of self. Let go of the desire to fit everything into a day. French girls save up for a Birkin bag and wear it for the rest of their lives. The rest of us are often susceptible to the next fad, the new thing, the ultimate diet. olliivier Me gusto la primera mitad pero despues empezo a resultarme aburrido. Yes, I am coming at this from my entirely American perspective, but the book is so idealized, condescending, pretentious and based in fantasy that I was rolling my eyes for the last pages of the page book.
What I am interested in however, are many elements of French culture — work ethic, friendships, and especially the relationship they possess concerning food.
We’d all be as free as the French girl if we looked like her, right? I am ashamed that I paid for it. Goodreads is the world’s largest site for readers with over 50 million reviews.

This is not a book to be read for sentimental reasons, but enyre the good bits on fashion and eating. Some things in the book reminded me of Arthur Henry King’s idea about surrounding our children with authentic things, instead of fake, plastic representations of things.
Little boxes featuring French films, books and personalities are peppered throughout the book for interest and further reading, which is lucky, because this book leaves you wanting more.
